Here are 5 easily implementable ways to create or improve your company culture:

Talk to your employees

Knowing your employees helps you to understand what’s working and what’s not in your company. Employees should feel as though they are recognised as individuals and not just a number. Some companies will combine the usual all-hands meetings with a survey to gain more understanding.

Offer aligned benefits

Surveys and conversations help determine what benefits are needed for employees. When considering a benefit, ask yourself “What will it improve for people?”

For example, if employees talk about a desire to increase their skills or growth potential within your organization, career development might be a worthwhile benefit to offer.

Recognize employees and encourage them to do the same

Recognising colleagues and employees, and encouraging employees to recognize one another boosts collaboration, builds team spirit, and adds to positive company culture.

Recognition can come in many forms: verbal recognition at a meeting, a company-wide email, a simple thank you, a financial bonus etc.

Encourage alignment with core values

Know your organisation’s core values and hire candidates who align with them. That way new employees will not only be contributing to the effectiveness of your workforce but will benefit your culture as well.

During your interview process, question candidates about what they have done to embody these values in the past. Then make sure to hold your employees to those standards throughout their tenure.

Create socialising opportunities

When your employees get to know each other on a more personal level, their understanding of one another improves, which will have a positive impact on collaboration. No matter where your employees are create situations that encourage social interaction to enable this type of bonding.

This post-Covid era may require more effort for virtual and in-person get-togethers. Remote events can include virtual happy hours, games, and even volunteering.
